  1. INDX “Nozzlegate” becomes a trust problem

    • What happened: Bondtech confirmed that early INDX systems and Prusa CORE One+ upgrade kits shipped with nitrocarburized nozzles measuring around 30–32 HRC. Buyers believed they were receiving conventionally hardened nozzles closer to 55–60 HRC.

    • Why it matters: The supplied nozzles may wear faster with carbon-fiber, glass-fiber, glow, and other abrasive filaments. Because INDX uses a proprietary induction-heated tool assembly, owners cannot simply install a standard hardened nozzle.

    • Who should care: INDX buyers, Prusa CORE One+ owners, composite-filament users, and print farms evaluating the system.

    • Extruder Report verdict: The nozzles may still work fine for PLA and PETG, but that is not the point. Buyers paid for a specific capability and received something different. Bondtech now needs to publish a clear replacement timeline and compensation plan.

  2. Sovol combines IDEX and toolchanging in the M1D

    • What happened: Sovol launched the M1D, an open-source machine with two independently moving nozzles, one fixed toolhead, and six swappable heads. It promises five-second tool changes, copy and mirror modes, OrcaSlicer support, and very little purge waste.

      Early-bird pricing starts at $1,299, with shipping projected for November 2026.

    • Why it matters: Most affordable multicolor systems still waste large amounts of filament through purging. The M1D is attempting to combine low-waste toolchanging with IDEX production features in one machine.

    • Who should care: Advanced hobbyists, soluble-support users, prop makers, Etsy sellers, and small print farms producing repeated parts.

    • Extruder Report verdict: This is one of the most interesting printer concepts of the year. It is also a crowdfunded machine making aggressive speed, waste, and delivery claims. Watch closely, but do not build a production plan around it yet.

  3. Printed Solid officially becomes Prusa USA

    • What happened: Printed Solid, acquired by Prusa in 2022, has been rebranded as Prusa USA. Its Wilmington, Delaware facility handles U.S. manufacturing, filament production, fulfillment, and customer support.

    • Why it matters: A stronger U.S. operation could mean faster shipping, easier institutional purchasing, better domestic support, and a more competitive position with schools, businesses, and government buyers.

    • Who should care: U.S. Prusa customers, educators, repair shops, print farms, and organizations that prioritize domestic sourcing.

    • Extruder Report verdict: This is mostly a name change today, but it signals that Prusa is taking its U.S. operation more seriously. The real test will be whether availability, service times, and domestic production improve.

Deal Pulse:

  • Ten spools of Creality Hyper PLA for about $86: A 10-pack of 1kg Creality Hyper PLA spools was listed for approximately $86.32, or about $8.63 per spool, after the available promotion.

    That is strong pricing for prototypes, large decorative prints, giveaways, and farms that burn through standard materials.

    The catch: Check the eligible colors, coupon requirements, seller details, shipping cost, and final checkout price before buying. Cheap filament stops being cheap when inconsistent colors or winding cause failed jobs.

Community Pulse:

  • A resin buyer reports a rash after handling an Etsy print: A buyer said they developed a rash after priming the underside of purchased resin figures and asked whether visible material might be uncured resin. Community members warned about liquid resin becoming trapped inside hollow models.

    The report is anecdotal and does not prove exactly what caused the reaction. The safety warning is still worth taking seriously.

    For sellers, curing does not end when the outside feels solid. Hollow prints need proper drain holes, thorough internal washing, adequate UV exposure, and a final inspection for tacky, shiny, soft, or leaking areas.

  • Standardize the workflow before adding more printers: A Creality case study highlighted a miniature business running six printers close to continuously. The most useful lesson was not the manufacturer-reported revenue—it was the workflow.

    The operator limited color options, kept pre-sliced production files ready, and used automatic refill to reduce setup time.

    A practical production file for every product should include:

    • Approved 3MF or sliced file

    • Printer and material profile

    • Allowed colors

    • Estimated runtime

    • Expected filament usage

    • Failure checkpoints

    • Packing instructions

    More printers do not automatically create more capacity. A repeatable process does.

Final Layer:

This week’s biggest stories point in the same direction: printer buyers are no longer evaluating hardware alone.

Nozzle availability, replacement parts, local control, slicer support, firmware behavior, and company communication now matter almost as much as speed and print quality.
