After weeks of Nozzlegate, delays, and increasingly annoyed preorder customers, INDX is finally leaving the building.

Creality also launched one of the cheapest automatic four-color packages we’ve seen, while Bambu Studio quietly added tools that could save more time than another printer-speed bump.

Here’s what mattered.

  1. INDX finally ships

    • What happened: Prusa has started shipping CORE One/+ INDX conversion kits after pausing them over Bondtech’s nozzle-hardness problem.

      Early preorder customers are getting the new CORE One+ Gen 2 belts, pulleys, and thermal-expansion hardware at no additional charge.

      There is another twist: Prusa and Bondtech now say the existing surface-hardened tools are surviving far more ordinary carbon-fiber filament than the first accelerated tests suggested. Manufacturer testing has reportedly reached multiple kilograms of PETG-CF, PC-CF, and PA-CF without measurable print-quality degradation.

    • Why it matters: “Nozzles aren’t fully hardened” and “nozzles are useless for carbon fiber” are not the same statement.

      Very abrasive glow and glass-filled filaments are still the bigger question, but the practical situation looks much better than it did when Nozzlegate broke.

    • Who should care: CORE One owners, INDX buyers, composite-material users, and anyone evaluating proprietary toolchanger ecosystems.

    • Extruder Report verdict: Shipping the product and giving early buyers the Gen 2 upgrade is the right move.

      It does not undo the original specification mistake, but actual wear data is finally replacing speculation.

      Now the pressure shifts to E3D and Bondtech to produce a genuinely abrasive-resistant option.

  2. Creality puts four-color printing at $299

    • What happened: Creality launched the SPARKX i7 Nano in the U.S. for $299 with its compact CFS nano filament changer.

      You get four-color automatic switching, RFID, auto refill, a 720p AI camera, automatic leveling, a 300°C hardened nozzle, and a 260 × 260 × 255mm build volume.

    • Why it matters: Automatic multicolor printing is moving from “premium upgrade” to normal entry-level feature remarkably quickly.

      At $299, the question is no longer whether beginners can afford multicolor.

      It is whether Creality can make the experience as reliable and painless as the best established systems.

    • Who should care: Beginners, families, classrooms, casual multicolor users, and anyone shopping below $400.

    • Extruder Report verdict: The price deserves attention. The machine still needs reviews.

      A cheap multicolor system with unreliable filament switching is just a cheap source of purge waste and troubleshooting.

      If the CFS nano works well, this could be one of the year’s strongest beginner values.

  3. Bambu Studio is becoming more than a slicer

    • What happened: Bambu released Studio 2.8.2.61 on August 21 to fix several problems in the current 2.8 branch.

      The more interesting story is what 2.8 now does: generate assembly guides from multipart designs, show upcoming pause timing, improve filament management, support E3D hotends, and experiment with shorter prime towers that skip layers where no color change is happening.

    • Why it matters: Assembly documentation is one of the annoying pieces of publishing complex models.

      So is explaining when somebody needs to insert a magnet or nut.

      And multicolor purge waste remains one of the ugliest parts of automatic filament switching.

      Bambu is attacking all three in software.

    • Who should care: MakerWorld creators, multicolor users, designers selling multipart models, and print farms.

    • Extruder Report verdict: This is the kind of slicer development we want.

      Printer hardware is already fast. Saving design, documentation, and operator time is increasingly more valuable than chasing another benchmark.

Deal Pulse:

  • Bambu Lab P1S Combo — about $499: The P1S plus AMS has dropped back to roughly $499, matching the lowest pricing seen recently.

    That is important because the P1S is not an unknown launch product.

    It is a mature enclosed CoreXY platform with years of profiles, fixes, accessories, and community knowledge behind it.

    The catch: Confirm exactly which AMS generation is bundled. Bambu’s accessory lineup is getting complicated enough that “P1S Combo” does not always tell the whole story.

Community Pulse:

  • INDX customers went from “when will it ship?” to “which batch am I actually in?”:

    Prusa’s good news came with a communication wrinkle.

    Customers who previously saw Batch 1 are now seeing several smaller shipping batches, with some early preorder estimates stretching into September or October.

    Some customers already have tracking numbers. Others who ordered the first day are still weeks away.

    The hardware is moving.

    The messaging still needs work.

  • Stop pricing custom work by grams of filament: A Creality case study this week profiled a two-person shop reproducing unavailable automotive and motorcycle parts with scanning, CAD, and 3D printing.

    Ignore the flashy manufacturer-reported growth numbers for a moment.

    The useful lesson is the business model:

    The customer is paying to solve an unavailable-part problem—not to buy 84 grams of PETG.

    For custom replacement work, quote separately for:

    Scanning or measurement

    CAD/reverse engineering

    Prototype iterations

    Final manufacturing

    Finishing

    Digital-model ownership or future reproduction rights

    That turns engineering time into something you actually get paid for.

Final Layer:

The interesting part of this week is how quickly multicolor hardware is becoming ordinary.

Creality can now advertise automatic four-color printing for $299. A mature P1S Combo is around $499. INDX is finally turning eight physical nozzles into something normal people can actually order.

That means the competitive fight moves somewhere else:

Reliability.
Waste.
Slicer workflow.
Repairability.
Replacement parts.
Documentation.

In other words, the boring stuff.

And that is probably good news for everyone who actually uses these machines.
